So, in one week I will be leaving to Glasgow to study there for one semester! I'm currently in my Bachelor Business Administration and I will follow three electives there, namely: Portfolio Analysis, Financial Analysis, and Corporate treasury & International Risk management.
What can I expect? When talking to people about leaving to Glasgow I always get similar reactions: "Massive drinkers" , ''You have to buy a Kilt!'' ''You know those guys fry mars bars!?" ''Scotland is noting like England!''. So I am really looking forward and have a hard time figuring out what to expect from Glaswegians and the culture.
The Glaswegian accent is very hard in nature to understand, try to find a true Glaswegian on youtube, and you will find out! But I guess that will only be a problem in the beginning and I hope to get used to it. As I was reading Michelle's Blog (Who studied in Glasgow last semester), I also found out that drinking is really an issue in Glasgow and Scotland, but that won't be much of a problem either, being Dutch student.
Until now I am really exited about studying in a different country, especially Glasgow, since it used to be one of the most important cities for the banking industry. As I already mentioned I take three classes, which I already have the syllabus on, and it looks ok (i.e. not to hard to easy). The classes will be much more interactive and for all the courses I frequently have to present and attend mandatory lectures and tutorials, which is pretty different from Tilburg. I like the idea of different type of education so I am looking forward to take these courses.
I also signed myself up for an investment group (similar to the investment group of Asset accounting and finance). There are supposed to be semi-monthly meetings were students discuss investment idea's. I think this will be really interesting to see how students from Strathclyde look at same topics.
So, I am really looking forward to study in Glasgow, and I am leaving in less than a week!
