seville

Every Monday morning again I have troubles to get out of my bed. We have from Monday till Thursday classes at nine which means we have to wake up at 7. When I compare this to my schedule in the Netherlands it’s a lot more structured. After classes and another case evaluation with our teacher Jasper and I thought it was maybe time to spoil ourselves a bit so we went to Lateral, a very good tapas restaurant. We took some meatballs with a delicious sauce and croquettes de gambas. Also we had vegetables in tempura and bread with tomato sauce and codfish filet. It was very cosy and it encouraged me again.

Last time I told you about the course where we had problems with, I decided that doing nothing while the whole class had just insufficient grades is just not the way how I cope with it. It is a bit difficult here to go to the teacher to confront him with the result so I wrote a proper email to the coordinator of the course. I think this is the best you can do in this case. She wrote me back and talked with the teacher. To be honest, it didn’t helped a lot but it helped a bit and he is already a bit more structured now so no guts, no glory.

The rest of the week we had some problems with the landlord. She was forgotten to say that next to the 650 rent we pay monthly we also have to pay for gas water light. I didn’t agree to pay this since she never told us. I asked her a few times for a contract but she never gave me. I thought it would be no problem but now it is. Also we have some problems with leaving and her rules since she would make for every house mate another rule. So guys when you go on exchange always wait until you have your contract before paying anything and always ask for an English contract. Now we asked more people for it and everybody told us that they had to ask 5 times for the contracts since a lot of landlords are renting ‘black’ and there were also landlords who tried to give a Spanish contract so you don’t know what you sign. A bit frustrating now but hopefully it will be alright soon.

After those frustrations and all the work for the projects we need some distraction. We wanted to go with our Spanish friends to Seville but too bad our Spanish friends couldn’t find time to go this weekend so Jasper and I went together, Thursday night at 1 am we went by bus. At 7 o clock in the morning we arrived. It was cold and dark so we walked a bit lost through the silence city. After an hour we found a hostel for the night and we went to the city. Since Spanish people only eat a croissant and a cup of coffee for breakfast we wanted to wait for the pan company where you can get a bread with chicken filet with salad. Unfortunately this opens at 11 o clock so we first went to the castle, Alcazar. This castle was really so beautiful! A lot of high palms of around 30 meters high. The whole garden around was so amazing, and I have never seen such a beautiful palace as this. After this visit we went finally to the pan company to have breakfast. Meanwhile it was 25 degrees, can you imagine in the middle of November. We went to the hostel to drop our stuff and we went to the cathedral. Also the cathedral was very beautiful. Then we went to plaza Espagna which is situated in a nice park. On the way we saw the University of Seville and decided to go in, what we saw was so great. A big old building with sculptures and a fountain and when we took a look into the classes we saw those very old wooden chairs remind me to confessional of the church. Such an beautiful University ! Also plaza Espagna was amazing, a half round building with a little ‘river’ with bridges with Delfs- blue paintings on it and a big fountain. It was a bit like Seville meet Venice.
We took a little nap in the park with our feet in the water. Since a bed is more comfortable and we had a bad night in the bus we went to the hostel to get a sleep for 4 hours. At 7 o clock we went to the centre to go shopping. We were not the only one, the whole Seville population seemed to be there. It was so enormously crowded but also so pleasant. I felt in love at Seville, I like Seville more than Madrid since the atmosphere is better. It is not very big , the centre is as big as Tilburg, and there were many students from over the whole world since a lot of them were wearing pulls of different Universities.

We already found a nice restaurant by day, the smell of good pizza was so irresistible that we already reserved a place at 22h. We first thought there would be nobody since by day there was almost nobody and it was a bit out of the centre. When we arrived we were surprised. It seemed to be one of the best restaurants of Seville since many people were waiting in line at 22h! We both had a delicious pizza and it wasn’t expensive at all.
The day after we woke up at 10 , relaxed a bit and took again a breakfast at the pan company. We still wanted to see a wall which we thought would be like a little Chinese wall but that was a bit disappointing. We also wanted to see ‘casa pilatos’ , an old house which must be nice but when we heard that the entrée was 8 euros we thought that was quite much since the castle was just 2 euros. We decided not to go in and went to the centre to shop again. I found some nice pair of shoes and also Jasper found a nice pair. After some shopping we were a bit tired and invent that we already saw the whole city inclusive the stores.

Oh oh,,…. And now? That was what we thought since we already booked our tickets back at 1 o clock in the night. It was 4 pm, we played some games as gibbet and I see I see what you not see and further enjoyed the nice atmosphere and the amazing view on the cathedral. Also we talked a lot and enjoyed the day with no obligations. At 22 we went to the same restaurant as the day before. We had a nice meal again and then we had to go back by buss.

It was a very nice weekend and for everybody who want to see another city as Salou and Barcelona, Seville is a recommendation !
