my subjects

Hello blog readers,
If you are thinking about going to Carlos III next year I first want to tell you something about my first experiences about my subjects. Take into account that I am a fiscal economics student and not a Business administration one and that for me a subject is quickly a bit boring.

I start my week with strategic management. This course is really nice, I like the topics very much. The only problem that I have with this is that the teacher is not really clear in what we have to prepare for next class but when you come in class and we are going to discuss an article he always summerisas the articles because nobody knew that they have to read it at home. The discussion about the articles are always quite interesting.

Then I have Organisational economics. This course is also very nice! You get every week a case which you have to solve and then we are going to discuss this case the next class. The teacher is a bit chaotic but I like the fact that he is the only one who is really clear in what he expects from us.

On Tuesday I start my day with operations management. This course is a bit disappointing to me! I don't like the way he gives classes. we do things in class which we in Tilburg would have done at home. Besides the topics are not that interesting . The teacher is although really nice and as he said "I am Spanish so Im flexible".

Then I have Human recourse management. This is really the least preferred class of the week, maybe this is also because it is my latest class and without an airco it is so hot at 11.30 in the classroom. He prepared slides. Then he asks us all the time what do you think Kelly ( you have a nameplate in front of you). I really never know what he is asking me because I don’t know nothing about human recourse and I thought that was exactly the reason why I follow this course. Then when you gave an answer he press on the enter button so the answer appears on the slides. The only ones who can give answer to his questions are two boys in our class who already worked for 3 years in a human recourse company. I think he can explain much more by just explaining us and ask us the class after about the stuf he explained the lesson before.

Last week we also had to make two cases, in contrast to his classes these cases were the most interesting cases I made so far in Spain. One about the human recourse of Microsoft and one about Portman so you can see the best and one of the worst companies and why human recourse management is important.

Finally we also have Genesis of the modern firm. This is a strange subject. We never have to go to classes and just make the final exam, you should also chose for the option make a lot of assignment etc and be in class at least 75% of the lectures and then you don’t have an exam but since I don’t want to wait 6 hours a week for this course I chose the first option. Now I have to learn 24 academic articles and some powerpoints but the articles are more about history than economics and they are written really boring that I think this course is not that usefull and to me really boring.

Now back to my week. Monday we had just classes. We had to make two revieuw test.
The first one was from Strategic management. Jasper and I both learned the sheet very well but then we had a test about an analysis of an article we didn’t read because he didn’t mentioned that. Thank god I know a lot about beer brewing since I live very close to the Bavaria Brewery and after discussing it seemed that I made it very well. Than we had a test for organisational economics which went very well. It was about the topics we had before.

Tuesday I woke up really early so I took the metro at half past 7. We had to print our answers on the cases for human recourse management. When we arrived at the libary it seemed that this opens at 9 o clock. the security wouldn't open the door before 9.00am, a bit annoying because he stood in front of the door watching on his watch while there were a lot of people waiting to go in. Then we were to late for operations management, luckly I could demonstrate an answer on the blackboard so I hope the teacher forgave me.

I didn’t wanted to wait another hour for my second class so after operations I left home. I arranged another mobile provider because yoigo is much cheaper than Orange. Later Jasper and I went to Retiro where we saw Marlies, we enjoyed the sun and our tinto de verano. After we went out for dinner. We had to wait 1,5 hour for a table outside and our pizza because it was sooo crowded. Spain Should be in a crisis but you won’t believe this when you see how crowded the restaurants are every lunch and every dinner every day. It is like July when all the tourist are here. When we finished our pizza, which should be for 2 people but wasn’t so, we paid and went to the neighbour restaurant where they had really good tapas. After a plate of ali oli we went home.

Wednesday I was bad again, instead of going to my class I went to the Primark with Jasper. There we should met Marlies and Merel but they were really late. I bought 3 bras and a pant for just 20 euros. Normally they cost me at least 25 euros each. After a lunch in the IKEA and a walk through the big shopping centre we went home again.

Thursday I was brave and went to class. That night Merel came for dinner and after we went to the city were we met the rest of the group. We had a great night in Joy. We got free entrance and one free drink and we didn’t had to wait in line for hours.

Friday I woke up at 13.10 because I was so tired. The whole weekend I did just my homework, dyed my hair and watched some television and went to Retiro to relax a bit.
Oh and I sent my brother a birthday card and my grandma a postcard from Madrid.
