Already the 21st of November: time flies when you are having fun. This is the week that my parents are visiting me, yay! This means that I have to be tour guide (again!), but for my parents it is nice to see all the places you have been bragging about the last couple months. First however, some school work has to be finished and some classes have to be attended.
Monday is my usual long day of classes. At Organizational Economics we were supposed to have the second part of the already postponed review test, but due to his extensively long lecture talks it was again postponed. It is quite frustrating that you have studied for this test for some time, that it is postponed two times.
The next day I set my shoe for Sinterklaas, so that he could put some nice treats in it. I sang the traditional song ‘Sinterklaas kapoentje’, and I hoped that the Sint would be very pleased with me. When I woke up the next day I saw that my shoe was filled with presents, meaning that Sinterklaas had come all the way back to his beloved city to give me some small presents. Me gusta!
Later that day, Kelly and I decided to do a nice trip again and we looked for cheap flights on Ryanair. We found a cheap one to Porto, which is not that far from Madrid. We said to each other: let’s do it! So the 14th and 15th of December we will be in Porto.
Wednesday we went for some tapas with our exchange friends. In a street close to Sol, were are a lot of restaurants and bars, we found a nice-looking place. We just ordered some dishes from the menu, as we could not understand the Spanish explanations that were written with the dished. It turned out to be quite good, as all dishes we ordered were nice. Some patatas, an egg dish, some balls filled with squid, bread with salmon and bread with chicken. Afterwards, we even got a free shot of the house; it was Spanish and tasted like Baileys. This is what I call a lovely evening!
Next day was some serious stuff however; the second part of the review test for Organizational Economics and our presentation for the Goldman Sachs case. I am always stressed for a presentation, but this time it went quite well. Also the professor’s comments were positive, so I was satisfied with the result. The second part of the review test also went well, meaning that this day was already a success!
In the afternoon, my parents finally arrived at Barajas. It is always to see your parents after such a long time! I guided them to the metro from T1, which is quite a walk. We took the metro to their apartment at Colón; a great location to be for a short holiday. It is near Sol, Retiro, Plaza de Cibiles and Paseo de Prado. To give the a warm welcome in Spain, we went to have some tapas at Lateral, a well known tapas place in Madrid.
Friday I gave them a tour around the city to show them the spots I have been talking about for hours. They were impressed with the enormous buildings and the big avenues. We have seen the usual hot spots like Puerta del Sol, Plaza de Cibiles, Palacio Real and Plaza Mayor.
The next day we went to Parque del Retiro as the weather was superb. Still 22 degrees in the end of November, who could have thought that? When my parents saw the boats, they thought it was a good idea to make a ride and so we did. Really funny to be on a boat in the small lake in the park. That evening we went again for dinner, which is always nice. A lot of places to go, and this time we went for the menú del dia, which is 3 courses, bread and drinks for around 10 euros.
Sunday I had to do a lot of homework, so my parents first went alone to discover some new places in Madrid and we would join later. When we met with them, they told us that there are a lot of nice, free museums we probably had not seen yet and where we normally would not go in or even would not know. So we got some new plans for the coming weekend, visiting museums!
Tomorrow will be their last day, so we will plan some cool things to do. First we have to attended some classes unfortunately. For now, this weekend was super!
